Within NYC Opportunity, the Enterprise Data Solutions (EDS) team takes innovative approaches to linking data in a meaningful way, as a means to help inform decision making by City-wide stakeholder groups, including leadership, agencies, providers and clients. EDS views data as a protected asset that can be responsibly leveraged across digital products to support analytical initiatives, facilitate knowledge sharing, and develop business strategy. The Mayorâ€™s Office for Economic Opportunity is recruiting for one (1) Computer System Manager M-I to function as a Java Developer to be part of the Integration Services unit of the EDS team, the Java Developer will be responsible for maintaining and expanding our current digital products and services to help drive the long-term data strategy for enterprise data integration. The Java Developer will be responsible for maintaining and expanding our current digital products and creating new digital services. They should have strong software development skills to make tools that are human-centered and help make complex information easy to understand. The Java Developer will: â€¢ Use technology solutions to solve business problems. â€¢ Contribute to new technology projects as assigned and provide operations & maintenance support for existing applications. â€¢ Develop custom code and web services that allow seamless integration between systems. â€¢ Unit test newly developed code and support system testing efforts. â€¢ Be responsible for working with Cityâ€™s Cyber Command unit to pass application security accreditation. â€¢ Troubleshoot errors, defects and other system issues. â€¢ Maintain system document and source code repositories. â€¢ Support the team director and fellow team members as needed
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. A master's degree in computer science from an accredited college and three years of progressively more responsible, full-time, satisfactory experience using information technology in computer applications programming, systems programming, computer systems development, data telecommunications, database administration, planning of data/information processing, user services, or area networks at least 18 months of this experience must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity in the areas of computer applications programming, systems programming, computer systems development, data telecommunications, data base administration, or planning of data processing or in the supervision of staff performing these duties; or 2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of experience as described in "1" above; or 3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or recognized accrediting organization and six years of experience as described in "1" above; or 4. A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or recognized accrediting organization and must possess at least three years of experience as described in "1" above, including the 18 months of administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory experience as described in "1" above. Qualification Requirements (continued) NOTE: The following types of experience are not acceptable: superficial use of preprogrammed software without complex programming, design, implementation or management of the product; use of word processing packages; use of a hand held calculator; primarily the entering or updating of data in a system; the operation of data processing hardware or consoles.
A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, or equivalent; preferably a Master’s Degree in the fields of public administration, business management, environmental planning, or a related field.
A minimum of 10 years of full time satisfactory professional experience in the field of environmental health and safety.
Experience overseeing large teams of staff and vendors performing multiple different types of work at a fast pace.
